Equality and Diversity in Hair & Make-up for Black, Asian and Ethnically diverse Performers

It is often said that Theatre and the Arts reflect our lives, in order for this to be a  reality there needs to be representation both in Cast and Crew.

We need a more diverse backstage workforce and we need Hair and Make-up artists fully trained and confident in Afro and textured Hair and all skin tones.

We are lacking this in the UK in Theatre, film and TV at the present time.

Having started life at Scene/Change we held a zoom event to bring together the experts in this field. We are a newly formed collective of artists and designers working to eradicate Afro and textured hair discrimination and create a more diverse working environment.

We would like to enable some changes.

To do this we are planning to apply for funding from various sources to

a) Train existing Hair and Make-up staff in Afro and textured Hair and Make-up

b) To attract a more diverse workforce.

c) Provide on going training  and up skilling beyond initial training.

We would like to take a few minutes of your time to answer a few questions to help us do this.
